Magnesium Telluride, MgTe

Magnesium Telluride, MgTe, is obtained by heating magnesium in tellurium vapour and a current of hydrogen. The direct union of the two elements is very vigorous. It is a white substance that is decomposed, with evolution of hydrogen telluride, by acidulated water. It crackles in air or water and apparently decomposes.
